What is the most impressive thing you did when you were 10 years old? However proud you are of making the bench for the Year 5 hockey team or inadvertently spelling ‘onomatopoeia’ correctly, I doubt you managed what Madison Glinski has.

The young violinist from Cornwall busks on the streets of St Ives and Truro in a bid to raise money for Little Harbour Children’s Hospice. She chose to support that organisation because “when adults die at least they had a childhood, but when children die they have not had this special time. With the hospice’s help the children and their families get a lot of love and care at a very needy time.”

To have such a developed perspective on such matters at such a young age is staggering. To raise £32,175 is outrageous. Many people have been touched by the girl’s project, donating generously. The story is a brilliant one, in which Madison made a New Years resolution to raise £500 for the hospice after having her appendix taken out.

Such was the pace at which she reached that goal, she decided to raise her expectations. First to £10,000 and then to £30,000. What impresses me most is the simple but effective business strategy employed by such a young child. Madison’s charity busking charmed so many passers-by that she managed to raise more than 60 times her target sum. She struck a chord with local shoppers and civilians by playing well-known classics; Wizard of Oz’ ‘Over the Rainbow’, Abba hit ‘I Have A Dream’ and ‘What Shall We Do With The Drunken Sailor?’.

The ambitious student of Truro Prep School even engaged with local government. Of course, she did so in the cute, mischievous manner quite becoming of a 10 year old girl, nominating St Ives MP Andrew George for an ice bucket challenge. The inspirational youngster took to Facebook pleading him to take part and has advertised her project excellently.

It’s a big thumbs up from The Busking Project.

So Madison, if you decide to go down the business path, it seems only natural that you come and replace our CEO at The Busking Project. Can you start Monday?
