Okay, we really messed with the performers on this one. All the way back in August 2011, we threw a fundraiser for The Busking Project (“The Busking Project’s Big Buskathon @ the Bedford in Balham”) to get us around the final leg of the trip.

We couldn’t afford to pay the musicians, so we offered them media instead: we’d film their performances and post the footage online for them to use in whichever way they want.

A year and a half later, here you go. Sorry it took so long. At the bottom of each profile you’ll find mp3 recordings from the night, which you can right-click to save. What’s your favourite song? We might be able to include it in the soundtrack to the documentary…

MYSTERY GUITARIST
This guy has asked that we don’t use his name, as he wasn’t satisfied with his performance, and didn’t want this media coming up in a google search. A shame, perhaps: it was one of the best parts of the evening! My brother’s ex-girlfriend developed a crush on him, too…

FABIO TEDDE

Fabio’s appetite and passion for world music fuelled his worldwide travels and he often found himself in far-away lands completely immersed in their musical styles and culture. His travels brought him to London in May 2001.Inspired by the city’s vibrancy and cosmopolitanism, he composed music to entertain his varied audience. Fabio started performing in tourist spots around London, playing the Djembe – a traditional African drum which he learned how to play while traveling around West Africa. He became involved with the Transport for London Music Network which supports emerging artists by giving them a platform to showcase their work to commuters on the underground, on a daily basis.

THE FOXES

For a band still unsigned, who have given up their jobs and sacrificed the trappings of complacency to mine the chasm of their ambition, to achieve what they already have is testament to the strength of their collective will and character. Having gained the attentions of John Cornfield, after the mega-producer saw the band’s incendiary live show at – of all places – The Orange Box in Yeovil, The Foxes blagged, busked and covered-versioned their arses off for over a year to pool together the money to record their debut album with Cornfield at his famed Sawmills Studios – the results of which speak for themselves.

JAMES RILEY

With one hand scribbling lyrics onto the back of a roadmap, and the other held aloft to thumb down a ride, London born singer-songwriter James Riley is a troubadour of the kind many thought no longer exist. A “fiendishly proficient” guitarist, singer, and a roadrunner to match, James chronicles the story of his experiences through clamorous, jubilant bluegrass ‘n’ soul and exquisitely spun yarns, stitched through ethereal, almost hymn-like ballads of love and life. After recently returning from busking and hitch-hiking his way from Amsterdam to Istanbul, James has been pedalling his unique class of pulsing, brazenly catchy acoustica throughout London and the South East, steadily gathering a word-of-mouth buzz in his wake. And between being crowned London’s best busker and winner of the Mayor of London: Gigs competition, bagging support slots with folk legend Martin Simpson and a slew of festival appearances this summer, 2012 has been a busy year for James and his band.
