Wow, what a sound. This vocalist from Melbourne, Australia, first loops intricate hip hop and drum and bass beats (like regular “beatboxers”), and then uses his voice over the top to create rich, unique rhythms, then harmonises with himself, and then raps…and all on the street, using a loop pedal and an array of audio effects. DubFX is already legendary, promoting himself and several other artists (including his girlfriend, Flower Fairy) on his own independent label.

Thanks to Ben Dowden, who has recorded high quality videos of his performances, we can all watch in awe.

Love Someone

This is worth sticking with, even if it’s not quite your cup-of-tea, just to hear what it’s possible to create with the human mouth. And some clever technical equipment. And a touch of genius.

Flow

You might then ask, after watching the above video, what else could he add? Howabout the sounds of a soloing saxaphone? All right. Enter Mr Woodnote.

If you really want to know how the magic happens, you can check out this post in asklubo.com, where Dub Fx has laid out in detail what he uses. And the videos I’ve put here are just a couple of my favourites, but there’s a lot more stuff out there for you to enjoy. Check him out:
